A little background: I’m a 23 year old female, had mild/occasional breakouts as a teenager, but nothing like I got this summer. We had kind of a humid summer and I did quite a bit of outdoor running/walking. My face all around my chin and jawline started to break out, BAD! I thought maybe it was the weather, but even now that the season is changing, my skin isn’t! I feel like I’ve tried most everything: acne.org regimen consisting of benzoyl peroxide, honey, organic routines. My dad does have skin problems/sensitive skin and rosacea (I think) I’d rather treat it without a doctor, but it’s been five months. I’m reading that a plain yogurt mask might help? The honey didn’t do anything for my current breakouts….so, I don’t know about the yogurt. ANY suggestions or advice would be GREAT!! THANKS!
I’m part of a wedding party that is happening in 8 weeks!!! I would love to get something visibly working on it…
I’m 13 weeks pregnant and have been using Clearasil Adult Tinted Treatment Cream for spot treatment for the last year or two, including my pregnancy to this point. I just read that acne medications are dangerous and shouldn’t be used, but this is the first time I’ve heard this! Still scares me though.
The active ingredient for mine is sulfur resorcinol (1% resorcinol and 8% sulfur). I tried to search but found nothing on this medication…only benzoyl peroxide and astringents.
Could this have been really bad for the baby? I plan on asking my Dr soon, but my next appt. is a week from now.
Thanks.
Benzoyl Peroxide? Also, what acne cream is the best?
I heard on the radio that Benzoyl Peroxide is harmful and useless on acne, and that it has been outlawed in Europe and Japan, I believe. Is this true? Should I stop using Proactiv because of it?
I have normal skin, not dry or oily, but I do have some zits on my chin and forehead. Proactiv doesn’t seem to be helping, and I’ve been using it for a couple months, so I want to switch. Which acne medication works the best for normal skin?
i am 18 years old and i have never really had acne but now i am getting it really bad.
i dont have time or money to go see a dermotologist and i am allergic to things with benzoyl peroxide such as oxy and proactive.
anything topical, or any home secrets would help thanks =)
I’m trying tbsp of coconut oil a day now, and I just started yesterday. Any other ideas.
My skin is extremely sensitive, and thus, I only wash once at night with soap and no soap in the morning. I do not use any product on my face besides the soap at night. I have been doing this regimen for a few weeks now, and my face is still red. I also stopped using makeup a few weeks ago, because I’m trying to solve rather than cover-up the problem.
I’ve tried various products in the past which didn’t help:
egg yolk — helps for acne but does nothing for redness
erythromycin — irritating somewhat and doesn’t help redness
castor oil & jojoba oil — both together and alone; not very helpful
salicylic acid — too irritating
benzoyl peroxide — too irritating
proactive — too irritating
omega 3 — made flushing worse
switching soaps — anything besides the cetaphil bar soap makes me break out — and yes, that includes even the cetaphil cleanser
doxycycline — really helped, but i stopped taking it after 2 months because my stomach started hurting, and i know antibiotics are not safe for long-term use
Is there anything natural out there like doxycycline that helped someone with their rosacea? Preferably something internal, because pretty much everything topical is ineffective and/or irritating.
Thanks!!
So tell me girls, are there any restrictions as to what use for your acne during the pregnancy?
I use neutrogina, and it has benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. It’s a face wash and a mask.
What other alternatives are available. My skin is extremely sensitive and I know I will eventually start to break out again.
tnx
To clarify. Everything I use is external. No pills or anything.
I’m 22 and still dealing with acne. It’s only on the face. It is not cystic; in fact, much of my acne is either blackheads or what I’m guessing is rosacea (red spots without a raised pimple).
I have tried many different products and regimes. I did see a dermatologist about 5 years ago; I was prescribed Retinal, which did not help, and the doctor got mad when I asked to be changed to a different medication and refused to see me.
I have since tried OTC products & birth control. I’ve tried ProActive, which didn’t help at all. I’ve tried L’Oreal and Oxy. I’ve had the most success with 2% salicylic acid (Clean n Clear astringent) and a 10% Benzoyl Peroxide cream (also Clean n Clear). While the acne has greatly improved, it’s still here and making me feel self-conscious.
Is there anything else, either regime-wise or product-wise, that I can try before making an appointment with a dermatologist?
I forgot to mention: I wash my face with cool water twice a day, pat it dry, then apply either a thin layer of the salicylic acid or a thin layer of the benzoyl peroxide over my face.
I use topical Benzoyl Peroxide and Erythromycin for acne treatment. I’ve been using it for a little while now, but I am unsure how to apply the product.
Should I apply the medication at the same time?
How much should I apply?
Should I apply big globs on specific pimples or just apply all over the face?
What kind of application will clear my acne the most quickly?
Thanks so much.
Also: is it okay if the medications mix or should I wait until one dries to put on the next?
ok so im clearing up my acne at the moment i just did the lemon letting it sit on my face to clear up the scars as much as possible i still have a few small pimples though should i put some benzoyl peroxide acne cream on before i go to bed?
like benzoyl peroxide 10% or the salicyclic acid , how long do you keep it on before you wash it off
